Global and climate change phenomenon have been an important and attractive issues since the Global Change Conference 2007 in Bali. The countries of the world agree to adopt Bali Road Map as an international guidance for the agreement in the future climate change. One of the agreement points is to slow down the rate of gas emission from deforestation. Forest is one land cover that acts as the lungs of the world which must be preserved for the prosperity of human being.

At the other end, the growth of world population is an important component in land use change. As the population rises, there is a bigger need of land for settelement, agricultures, pastures and another infrastructures. These expansion will deteriorate the environment which cause land degradation. One of the example is the extensive use of land in high elevation for settlements or agricultures. These activities will end in one thing, disaster.

Population growth will surely extensive the use of land for human being. The improper and overload exploitations can result in man-made disaster. It even will have worsening effects if we add natural disasters such as earthquake, floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, etc. These disasters can destroy the balance between the existence and the use of land cover. It will also disharmonize the existence of human communities in certain areas.

Population growth cycle, land use – land cover change and disaster are the characteristics of Indonesia due to its geographical uniqueness which located in tropical reqion and between two continents and two oceans. It is important to understand this characteristics through a series of scientific activities which then result in finding solution related to demography, land use-land cover and disasters.

Therefore, Remote Sensing and GIS Research Division, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology, ITB in collaboration with the Center for Remote Sensing – ITB host this scientific activity with a theme ”The Second International Remote Sensing & GIS Workshop Series on Demography, Land Use-Land Cover and Disaster (IReSWS-DLUCD)”. The aim of this workshop is to focus the research on the use of remote sensing, GIS and spatial technology topics related to demography, land use-land cover and disaster in Asia and another countries. This activity hopefully will be participated from researchers, academics, vendors, NGO, remote sensing and spatial technology export within Indonesia or abroad.

Call for Papers

Abstract submission

• Authors who wish to participate in the workshop must submit an abstract (one page only) consisting of a complete description of their ideas and applicable research results. Detailed specifications for the abstract content and format are provided below.

• The abstract is to be submitted electronically via email at office@crs.itb.ac.id. This abstract must be submitted by May 15, 2009.

• The status of all submissions will be available on the IReSWS 2009 website.

• Abstract submissions will be reviewed by experts selected by the editorial board for their demonstrated knowledge of particular topics. The progress and results of the review process will be posted on this website and authors will also be notified of the review results by email no later than June 1, 2009.

• If your abstract is accepted, you may choose to submit a full paper.
